Losing Young Player Status
Players will lose Young Player Status if any of the following events occur:
- The player leaves Shelter Island by any means
- The player has spent more than 8 hours in game
- The player says "I renounce my young player status"
Once a player has lost Young Player status, he/she will not be able to interact with Shelter Island NPCs. However, players can still return to Shelter Island and make use of New Player Dungeon for skills training.

- Skills are capped at 80 on/in Shelter Island/Dungeon.
- Players cannot perform Harmful Actions on other players
Shelter Island Moongate
Due to the fact that players cannot perform Harmful Actions (including Stealing) on other players while on Shelter Island, makes the Moongate here an ideal location for trading and socializing. It might look daunting and loud, but you will find many interesting players and vendor gates in this area.
Leaving Shelter Island - Now What?
Upon leaving Shelter Island, your true journey in Outlands begins... there is an entire world to explore, experience to be gained, gold to be found, and rare loot to be collected. It is difficult to recommend a specific path, as there are various paths to making gold and progressing your character. Definitely explore the world, ask questions in Discord, browse guides and videos created by the many content creators in our community.
First thing you should do after leaving Shelter Island -- turn off criminal looting! (say "[PreventCriminalLooting"). Criminal actions were not allowed in New Player Dungeon, so this wasn't a problem. Off the island, however, looting others' corpses (intentionally or accidentally) will turn you grey and players may kill you for it without penalty. Don't go grey!
Before heading out to explore and farm gold, you may want to continue training your skills to Grandmaster (aka GM, or 100). You have several options here:
- Prevalia Moongate has a public training dummy
- Outpost Moongate has a public training dummy
- Anchor's Rest Moongate has a public training dummy
- East Prevalia has a zoo
- If you join a guild, most have private training dummies at their guild house
If you decide to use one of the public options, pick up a training weapon and be sure to bank anything you don't want to lose. Some PKs may decide to prey on AFK macroers at these dummies.
If you are looking to raise other non-weapon skills, you can record a macro and AFK at one of these locations. The Discord server has a #scripts-and-macros channel, and Jaseowns has a YouTube channel and GitHub page for all sorts of skills training scripts if you need help.

Player Progression Systems
There are many unique new systems on Outlands. These systems are meant as long terms goals to progress your characters effectiveness in the world. Use the links below to explore these systems in order to effectively plan character development.

Prepare for PK Attacks & Thieves
Outlands is a bustling and open world where you will meet many players, some friendly and others not so much. Once off Shelter Island, players are able to freely attack or steal from another player (almost anywhere) but similar to real life, there may be consequences for your actions.
- When in a guard zone, if someone attacks you, you can say "Guards" and the criminal will be killed by the guards
- When in a guard zone, if someone steals from you, you can say "Guards" and the criminal may be killed by the guards if they were noticed see Being Noticed for more details
- If another player slays you, you can report them as a Murderer and if that receives enough murder counts, they will "go red" and incur Murderer Penalties upon death
There are many solutions to prevent yourself from being easy prey to PKs, thieves, and griefers, such as:
- Basic Survival Tools
- Locked Box - Keeping items inside of a locked box in your bag will protect those items from stealing as long as it remains locked.
- Trapped Pouches - if a PK uses Paralyze, opening a Trapped Pouch will do 1 damage to you and free you from Paralyze. Additionally, thieves snooping a Trapped Pouch that is not empty will trigger the explosion, giving you notice of their presence.
- Heal/Cure/Refresh Potions
- Adventurer's Rope - allows a player to teleport
- Bank early and often
- Travel with friends / join a guild
- Guilds are a great way to establish connections and participate in high-end content for rare loot
- Passive Tracking - Hostiles
Exploring Outlands
Aside from running to dungeons from towns, there are many options for getting around and exploring Avadon, and many of them come with specific skills:
- Camping allows you to hike to locations found in your Atlas. You must first unlock the hiking location by visiting the location and securing a campfire there
- Magery allows you to use the Recall spell on a rune or a location in a rune book, which will bring you to the location marked to that rune
- Runes can be made by using the Mark spell on a blank rune, which can be purchased from Mage vendors
- Chivalry provides the Sacred Journey spell, which creates a holy gate that will allow you to travel to Towns, Dungeons, Shrines, and a limited number of custom locations
- Players with none of the skills above can still travel around with rune books and Recall scrolls. You can drag and drop a Recall scroll onto a rune book or tome to add a charge and click on the blue gem beside the location you wish to travel to
- Rune books and tomes can be crafted with Inscription, requiring 10 and 25 Arcane Scrolls, respectively. These can then be blessed with a Bless Deed from the Prevalian Merchant for 50k and 100k gold, respectively
- Public rune book libraries are located around many of the moongates (e.g. Outpost, Andaria). These public books are also helpful for the initial journey to unlock Camping hiking spots
- Recall scrolls can be crafted with an Inscription skill of at least 40, purchased from some player vendors, or, in a pinch, purchased from Mage vendors (at a higher cost)
Earn Gold
Hunting Overworld & Dungeons
- Explore Points of Interest and Dungeons
- Use [Atlas command to receive a copy of the World Atlas which has functionality to point you to points of interest and dungeons
Gathering Resources
- Mining
- Lumberjacking
- Forensic Evaluation
- An alternative method for gaining gold & resources to get started, with very little investment
- You can train hiding/stealth/forensics/camping and other survival skills and pick clean the remains of others kills (leathers, reagents, sometimes gold) in dungeons
- A great way to get started with extremely low investment, especially great for collecting Magery reagents
- You can sell your resources to other players
- a single board will go for around 9-10 gp
- an iron ingot will go for around 12-14 gp
- a plain leather will go for around 3gp
- Coloured resources will vary with demand, but gathering resources is a very solid approach to making some quick money for new players.
Treasure Hunting
- Dungeon Chests picking is an extremely easy, consistent method for gaining gold, but can be quickly outpaced with mob farming
- Treasure Maps are an extremely lucrative method for gaining special/rare items, but are extremly costly to buy into and require a PvM ready character
Societies
- Learn about and get into Societies as early as you can
- Earn society points for rewards that you can use to sell to other players for big gold boosts, or use yourself to help elevate your PvM game
Player vs Player (PvP)
- Hourly PvP events are a great source of income, earn guild rewards while enjoying the fights
- Arena Touranments are extremely lucartive with Arena points if you are successful
- Stygian Rifts mix PvP and PvM together on a 3x3 match.
- Corpse Creek fight mounted in large teams near the lawless Corpse Creek
- Town Struggles fight on foot or mounted in large parties at towns
- Strangelands a solo and anonymous event using pre-selected templates to PvM and PvP.
